What Would You Do?

Hi XTensioneers,

I’ve been experiencing an iTunes stuttering problem in a household system that uses a NAS storage device. I store all my music, pictures, and hopefully soon videos on a 10 TB Drobo.

I have replaced patch cables, have been through the Drobo Support to the point that even I don’t believe it’s a Drobo problem, have an open case with already 3rd tier Apple Support, took almost three weeks to rebuild my iTunes lib file thinking it had to be corrupt, and today reconfirmed that my RJ45 jack the Drobo is plugged into is dedicated to one port on a 16 port 10/100 NetGear switch.

I’ve upgraded everything else in the house but this 16 port main switch, and have it on order tonight to have a GB network. I was in the process of upgrading anyway to GB, because 4K network movie rental is going to soon be a reality with Netflix alone.

… So I’m thinking, it would not be difficult to keep and dedicate my existing unit to an exclusive XTension 10/100 network switch, and pickup another Mini so that I can finally have an XTension system that doesn’t have to fight iTunes, or iPhoto in the pipe that will be on the new GB network. Michael has preached this for years, but until recently, when testing my sonar units to the max, I can evidently foul up iTunes from properly playing. It’s also true that I have a new NetGear router, and Apple thinks something could be set better in the router to get rid of my problem. Still working on that one.

Anyway, since my sonar units can and need to be yacky, sometimes, having their own net without all the rest of the content flow would seem to be a great idea

What would you do?

Thanks,

George
