Powerlinc replacement

I've been running Xtension using a USB Powerlinc for quite a few years with no problems. But lately, I've been experiencing intermittent failures on numerous units. Sometimes a reboot of the system will make things work for a short time, but not always. There seems to be no pattern to the failures. Things will work... then won't work just minutes later. If it were a single circuit or unit, I would suspect noise on the line but the failures happen randomly. Things that have worked perfectly for 10 years are no longer trustworthy so I have to run around and double check things like my irrigation controller and lights in an outbuilding.

So my question is "Can the Powerlinc be getting weak?". And if so, what is a recommended replacement nowadays. I see so many new devices and controllers in the near future and don't want to spend a fortune, but on the other hand I want something that works well. I only have X10 devices to control and replacing all of them would be very expensive.
