I just heard back from the developer of that PulsedLight sensor you keenly spotted after writing him and telling him of my problems with the mis-mounted sonar sensors, and basically, he thinks his product , and will do much of the same.
I had not heard of this sensor before, so you’re way ahead of me in finding such thinks. I have several other responses just send which outlines a lot more facts about what I shall do in the future to resolve this… if and when I install a new driveway.
Thank you for finding this product! I hope others take the time to find out it’s benefits.

Here is device that may help you solve/improve the sensor portion of your system. It is a crowd-funded device that is supposed start shipping soon. It is LIDAR based, very small, very accurate, a well documented interface and looks like it will sell for $72.00/per unit. It’s called “LIDAR-Lite”. It has a 40 meter range which may give you some good mounting options. It uses a standard I2C serial bus for communications.
Hope this helps.
