Chuck,

There are water flow sensors out there of the sail type that will just trigger a water flow alarm in a fire system.

I got one of these a few years back and hooked up an MS13 on the dusk senor. Once there is flow it changes the state of the MS13 and it sends a signal to X4X. An X10 security door/window sensor will do the same thing.

I use it to keep the light on in the basement bathroom when water is flowing to the shower. The light used to go our if someone stayed in the shower longer than 8 minutes and I didn't want to have the light stay on for longer than that if there wasn't anyone in the room.

It cost me $70 if I remember correctly. I have seen these a lot cheaper lately that they rather robust one I got a while back.

It doesn't meter the flow, it just notifies X4X that water is flowing.
