WOW, that sucks!

I've actually lost only 1 X10 switch our of the literally dozens that
I've used and that was because of a hard short inside the wall burned
the fuse wire inside the switch. I've never had one fail for any other
reason, others have had worse luck though and just want for people to
chime in telling you how horrid they think these switches are. I do
not think they are horrid and even if you had to replace them every 10
years it would still be a generation before they were as expensive as
the next level up from that company that makes those switches that do
X10 and that other protocol whos name we dare not speak ;) and frankly
those other switches have a far worse failure rate around my house
than the X10 ones do. Approaching 60% actually and I've got another
one failing now refusing to let you control it locally.

One thing that can happen is that the code wheels can get corroded
contacts and mess up the address, might try just spinning them around
once or twice to clean them up a bit and seeing if it comes back to
life. I assume you can still turn it on and off locally? Or is it
totally dead? These are available off ebay as replacements very
cheaply now, so even if you have to replace it there wont be a big
monetary sense of loss.

If you decide to get an IP camera drop me a note and lets be sure it's
one that you can connect to XTension for recording when motion sensed
and such.

Thanks,
James
