do you have some kind of remote remote thing like that? Cause I've had
mine do this too. They seem prone to both radio an IR problems and
send just garbage that blocks out the real remote in the room. Could
there be another remote say, sticking out from between 2 couch
cushions flooding the receiver in the TV or something? That would be
funny ;) But similar things have happened to me!

But on a TV set that aged it certainly is also possible that you've
just had something inside give up finally.
