What makes you think the remote is fine, if it doesn't control the TV?

1. Are the batteries dead?

2. Is there any sort of remote "unit number" in the TV's set-up menu?
(Sony VCRs can be selected to one of three channels.)

3. Is there a vase sitting in front of the IR receiver?
