Italozombies
The Italians, excluding as always those present, so as not to do anyone an injustice, are second generation zombies. An involution of the species. The first generation zombies, those described by Romero in “Night of the Living Dead”, had a common objective: to devour humans in order to survive. They moved slowly, they had empty expressions, guttural sounds. They were big babies of other times. The Italozombies apply to the letter the third basic law of human stupidity as developed by Carlo M. Cipolla, Professor Emeritus of Economic History at Berkeley, namely: “A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.” The Italozombies have thousands of personal objectives, each of which causes damage to others and to themselves. The sum of these objectives represents the society of the Italozombies as a whole.
What the Italozombie has in common with a traditional zombie is an apparent diminished responsibility. In reality he is a victim of the transitive law of the imbecile propagated by the newspapers and the TV. When he takes a wrong decision he sticks to it at the cost of seeming like an imbecile, up to the point of becoming one in reality. A consistent number of Italozombie-made-into-imbeciles sets off the envy of those who want to emulate them. In this case, what is ruling is another law, that of the preferential aggregation by which the higher the number of imbeciles, the greater the number of those added to them. An Italozombie becomes aggressive with anyone who tries to explain to them that they are behaving like an Italozombie. In these cases he raises his voice and he smothers with insults whoever is in front of him. The Italozombie does not want to be contradicted nor does he want to discover his true nature. His daily behaviour is media-directed. He has no ideas nor opinions, but deep-rooted convictions due to Minzolini, Vespa, Belpietro, Giordano, Scalfari, Riotta, and Battista. Furthermore he has a short-term memory of a few days and he doesn’t manage to associate things. The Italozombie is a social predator. He belongs to the category of the crafty who take advantage of the idiots. He is a small Attila, where he goes by, solidarity no longer grows and knowledge is no longer developed and grass no longer grows. The Italozombie is like a chameleon. He gets camouflaged with the Italians who are not yet infected; he’s the neighbour, the family member, the colleague in the office. The priest who blesses the Motorway payment station to the applause of the crowd. The actions of an Italozombie are hardly ever public; however they are always antisocial, from the invoice not issued to the discharge into a river, to parking the car on top of the ramp for people in a wheelchair. The Italozombie has always voted for the party that is best at reassuring him that he can continue to do his own stuff. The Italozombie is the metastasis of the country and the freedom of information is the cure. They will never give up (but is it in their interests?). Neither will we.
