circular = flat. Its only serious hope is a rotation into a higher
dimension where it is seen to be a helix or, more realistically,
an illusion of circular motion that is actually sort of spiral drawn
on the surface of an egg-shaped ball. Our hope is to move off of
the 1-d manifold and out into the space around it. What are the
conditions of space around a helix? Clearly that depends on
various factors. The simplest question is what determines whether
it "goes on forever", or whether it is indeed limited to reside
on some egg-like shell. Since this helix is not made of iron per
se, we have to get used to some similar-but-different forces.
We can presumably bend it (by animal magnetism?) into different
shapes, even cause it it zap out of existence or possibly
use it in another form elsewhere, like you'd use a metal spiral
as a watch spring.
