I think it is time for the argument over diet choices to cease. It has
become redudant and nobody is listening to each others arguments. I have
seen the arguments of many meat-eaters taken out of context, as well as
arguments for veganism taken out of context. I have also heard some very
intelligent arguments from the "other" side (i am vegan).
But what i think it all comes down to is diet is a personal choice. Making
your opinion known that you think the murder/enslavement/rape of nonhumans
is immoral is perfectly O.K. Making your viewpoint known that you believe
in a balanced ecosystem where the food chain is fully functional is ok as
well. But it is time to stop making character assinations and
generalizations. (ie. Vegans want to impose their diet on the world or
Meat-Eaters are a bunch of murderers [most have very intelligent reasons for
maintaining their diet] or Food Not Bombs forces veganism on people [no,
they choose to serve vegan food for multiple reasons: 1) FNB recycles food
from resteraunts, Meat does not hold and cannot be recycled 2) the world
hunger problem is theoretically fixable if the U.S. was to cut down on meat
consumption by 20šnd grain distribution was re-worked. I don't think that
means the development of some New World Vegan Order]).
The questions of animal rights is very personal. In some ways it does
relate to politics and anarchism (as ecoanarchists would argue) but for the
most part it is 100©ersonal. If everyone could make their closing
statements and bring up some new topics, we could avoid alienating people
from this list and cease the generalizations and character assinations.
