From: Jesse Cohn [jessecohn-AT-verizon.net]
I recently ran across an intriguing bit of historical material: what looks like a facsimile of (part of? half a page of?) a newspaper or broadside of some kind, apparently edited/written by one Henri Fournier, in French, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania: _Cris d'en bas: Receuil de poésies et chansons_ (issue no. 1, August 1902). It is advertised as "Parait une fois par mois en Supplement à l'Union des Travailleurs" — published once a month as a supplement to the Union des Travailleurs newspaper. This paper, subtitled "Organe d'Emancipation Ouvrière," was published from 1901-1916 in Charleroi by a Belgian immigrant named Louis Goaziou, member of the anarchist "Black International" from 1885, who is referred to as a "Co-Mason" (!). There seems to be a good bit of information available about Goaziou and the French working-class radicals of turn-of-the-century Pennsylvania, but I can't find anything else about Fournier, nor can I even find my way back to the source of the clipping!Who is this guy? Where can I get my hands on more of his poems/other writings? Any clues?
