The new book Democracy and Domination: Technologies of Integration and the Rise of Collective Power by Andrew Koch and Amanda Zeddy is now out.

The book analyzes the consolidation of the centralized institutional power from ancient Greece to the present using a genealogical method, stressing the material forces that make the collectivization of power possible – language, literacy, education, mass media, industrial production, and collective institutions. In this context democracy, is treated both as a system of domination and as a vehicle for furthering the consolidation of power.
