How wierd! Indeed, the human species is *the* species that *is* causing
many species to become extinct, and is threatening many more. Our
species has parasitically gobbled up the "lion's share" (sic) of the
resources on this planet (and of course, this gluttonous nature is
especially true of the wealthier nations) whilst (in seeming deference to
that which our "highly developed brain" would suggest) continuing to
procreate wildly. In fact, it's a sobering fact that if there's one
species, the extermination of which, would actually *help* the planet,
it's ours.
I'm not misanthropic - I'm just painting it as it exists. One might
further argue that the precise mindset that permitted the wholesale
exploitation of the planet (to the tune of the hole in the ozone layer,
the loss of rainforests, extinction of species, depletion of topsoil,
pollution and desecration of the oceans, ...) is the same mindset that
justifies our exploitation of individual animals.
