From: spencer s <spencerpdx-AT-yahoo.com>
i recommend Paul McLaughlin's "On the Fate of the State: Bakunin versus Marx".
labyrinth.iaf.ac.at/2001/McLaughlin.html
also there is a very nice summary of anarchist theory against the state in Ruth Kinna's 'Anarchism: A Beginner's Guide'.

- Hello,
- I am compiling a bibliography concerning anarchist critiques to Marx's
- theory of the state, including arguments against the economicist
- assumptions of historical materialism, against the theory of the state as a
- super-structure, counter-arguments for the state's autonomy, etc. Can
- anyone point me to relevant articles on the subject?
- To briefly summarize where I am at, I am familiar with Alan Carter's works.
- I am also familiar with Paul Thomas's book "Karl Marx and the Anarchists,"
- which is relevant to the topic, though not written from an anarchist
- perspective. I have browsed the back issues of Anarchist Studies, and found
- that Saul Newman's article "Anarchism, Marxism and the Bonapartist state"
- is of interest. I have also browsed the available online indices of Social
- Anarchism, though these stop at 1999. Unfortunately I don't have access to
- the journal itself. So, if anything appeared there in the last few years, I
- would appreciate any pointer.
- Any other information, including suggestion of places to look at, will be
- of great help.
- Many thanks in advance,
- Davide Turcato
