Dear Comrades,
I have just recently completed a study of Rousseau's basic political
writings (Mostly the following works: Discourse on the Origin of
Inequality, Discourse on Political Economy, and On the Social Contract).
My primary emphasis was on Rousseau's concept of freedom. I found it to
be a fascinating study. Highly recommended.
I have reached the conclusion that freedom according to Rousseau and
freedom according to the classical anarchists (Godwin, Proudhon, and
Bakunin) are closely related types of freedom. I am aware of the tension
between Godwin/ Proudhon and Rousseau, but is it possible that Godwin
and Proudhon took Rousseau's theory of freedom and improved upon it? The
terminology is different, but the similarities are uncanny. The
chronology fits, and both Godwin and Proudhon were aware of Rousseau's
work.
Does anyone know of literature exploring the similarities and
differences between Rousseau's concept of freedom and the classical
anarchist's concept of freedom? Or of Rousseau's possible positive
influence upon the early anarchists?
Does anyone have any thoughts on the similarities and differences
between Rousseau's concept of freedom and the classical anarchist's
concept of freedom?
Your brother in anarchism,
Harold
PS. I went to the archives to research this question, and I could not
locate a search engine. For example, I could not find a place where I
could type in "Rousseau" and sort out every post containing references
to Rousseau. Do the archives have this capability? If so, how do I
access it? If not, any plans on getting it?

No, because that implies that you have some means to measure, i.e.
reduce a complex situation to a number, which is - contrary to popular
believe - seldom possible.

Come on Alejandro, do you really believe that liberal crap? Did you
ever hear of Marx' analysis of capitalism and especially the value
theory? If not you should at least read it.
Alejandro, once more I have the impression, that you sucked up the
(neo-)liberal ideology to a high degree. Are you really sure, that you
are against capitalism, i.e. a society based on maximizing profit?

No, because that implies that you have some means to measure, i.e.

This sounds really interesting :-) .
It points in the direction of the IMHO infinite possibilities human
minds have.
