"Camden Yards Cleaners Take Struggle to RFK Stadium"
by Sofia Silva / Chuck D'Adamo (5/25/06)

Members of the United Workers Association took their struggle with
Baltimore Orioles management for a living wage of $9.06 to RFK Stadium in
Washington DC where the Orioles were playing the Nationals. Their goals

"The Bush Administration's Data Mining Threatens Democracy"
by Gregg Mosson (5/24/06)

The current administration's "Unitary Executive Theory" of executive power
and its warrantless surveillance policies are a danger to the rule of law
and a democratic society.

"Sheehan Labels Bush’s White House: 'A Crime Scene!'"
by William Hughes (5/19/06)

On May 18, 2006, activists attempted to deliver a “Don't Attack Iran”
Petition, which was signed by over 43,000 individuals, to a White House
official. The bureaucrat refused to accept it, despite the fact that the
Right to Petition the government for a redress of grievances is a right
older than the Constitution and a cornerstone of the First Amendment. A
defiant Cindy Sheehan then labeled George W. Bush’s White House: “A Crime
Scene!”

"BGE 72 Percent Rate Hike Set to Stand [Update]"
by Gregg Mosson (4/24/06)

While the 72 percent will stand, it will be phased-in with a first 19
percent hike in July 2006. That will be followed by a 25 percent hike in
June 2007, and another hike in January 2008, all to equal a total 72
percent rate increase. With Maryland Governor Bob Erhlich backpeddling
from his vow to call a special session, it looks unlikely a reduction will
occur. For those using BGE's budget-billing method to even out monthly
payments over the year, a hike already is in effect.

"Ferment over the 'Israel Lobby'"
by Philip Weiss

International relations scholars John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt
published a critique of the Israel lobby in 'The London Review of Books'
March 23, 2006. In "The Israel Lobby," Mearsheimer and Walt argued that a
wide-ranging coalition including neoconservatives, Christian Zionists,
leading journalists and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee
(AIPAC) exerts a "stranglehold" on US Middle East policy and public debate
on the issue. While supporting the moral cause for the existence of
Israel, Mearsheimer and Walt argued there was neither a strategic nor a
moral interest in the United States's siding so strongly with
post-occupation Israel. Many US citizens believed the Iraq War was about
oil, but "the war was motivated in good part by a desire to make Israel
more secure," according to the authors. Philip Weiss reports on the
response to the article which continues to resonate, and the background to
its publication.

"Iran: The Next Target of the Transnational Elite"
by Takis Fotopoulos

An attack against Iran with the aim of regime change is only a matter of
time, according to Takis Fotopoulos. The only real issue being the timing
and the form of attack. Why? Because an attack against Iran is the next
phase of the strategic plan to redraw the political map of the Middle
East, a plan which began at the beginning of the 1990s with the Gulf war
–which set the foundations for the final regime change in Iraq—and
continued with the invasion of Afghanistan.
