BALTIMORE INDYMEDIA ARTICLES

"Paul Wolfowitz’s Heart of Darkness"

by William Hughes (4/14/06)

Now, War Hawks within the Bush-Cheney Gang are planning a First-Strike
against Iran. It may come just before the Nov. midterm elections. The
Neocon Paul Wolfowitz concocted the notion of a Pre-emptive War. His
target, in 2003, was Iraq. Every time I hear Wolfowitz’s name mentioned, I
curse him for all the deaths and suffering that his scheme has caused to
the peoples of that unfortunate country, our brave troops and to our
dwindling treasury.

"Can You Afford Your Housing? "Are You Part of the Plan?"

by Chuck D'Adamo (4/5/06)

20 protesters descended upon the public hearing of the Baltimore City
Planning Commission at Frederick Douglas High School on April 1st. The
protest's concern was inadequate input into the process of the City's
acceptance of a Comprehensive Master Plan for urban development.

"Hey, General Assembly of MD: 'Reverse Deregulation!'"

by William Hughes (3/27/06)

Most Marylanders can expect their electric bills to go up by $743 a
year--a 74 % increase! The Maryland legislature deregulated the industry
in 1999. As a result of this sweetheart deal, BGE was absorbed by
Constellation Energy and required to begin buying its electricity on the
open market. Meanwhile, BGE’s electric-generating assets, originally paid
for by the people, were turned over to Constellation in 'a cash-free
shuffle.' The ratepayers are now being asked to pay again!

"BGE Price Hike of 70-Plus Percent Stuns Maryland"

by Gregg Mosson (3/12/06)

BGE has proposed a 72 percent rate increase to begin in July 2006 for its
Maryland customers. The BGE price hike comes in the wake of Maryland
state's deregulation of the utility industry in 1999. At the time the
legislature imposed price-hike freezes that expire this year.

"Riding to the Anti-War March, New York City, March 20, 2004"

26 Mar 2006 by Gregg Mosson (3/26/06)

From beneath earth’s eastern curve, two rays--
one flat pink and one a higher, wider band of yellow--
cross the blue-awakening sky. They soar through the reconstituting blue
as people mill outside a dusty, Baltimore meeting hall
waiting for two buses to carry us all
from under this cold canvas of light.

"Mass protests in France"
By Angelique Chrisafis

Hundreds of thousands of protesters took to the streets of France

pressure prime minister Dominique de Villepin to withdraw his
controversial new employment law. Organizers of the marches claimed that 3
million people joined marches with major demonstrations in Marseille,
Bordeaux and across the country. In Paris, there was an estimated 700,000

"Walter Mosley's Search for Context"
By Maria Tucker

Walter Mosley's latest monograph, "Life Out of Context," is a cognitive
journey that tackles big questions. Mosley also addresses possible
solutions. Among his suggestions are the formation of a Black Party and a
House of Representatives comprised of elected officials representing
identity groups--gay people, blacks, angry white men, the elderly,
etc.--rather than geographical areas. Interview by Maria Luisa Tucker.
