I had meant to post on this, but was in the midst of a deadline. In
my experience as a design watcher, the recent "Web 2.0" fascination
with filing away every corner:

fontfeed.com/archives/the-logos-of-web-20/

was part of a revival of the 80's and early 90's rave culture style
(very rounded, simplified, yet psychedelic), which back then was
perhaps one reaction to the "distressed", angular and messily
constructivist designs of the Brody/Carson era. At the time I
referred to it as "Ecstasy style," because it seemed so linked to the
drug that used the 70's smilyface emblem as its unofficial logo.

I assume some good British Cultural Studies chap has written about
these associations. Given time, I could come up with good examples.

And speaking of new logos, I enjoyed reading this:

hicksdesign.co.uk/journal/recent-work-fontexplorer-pro

about an actually half-decent new logo design.
