Thanks Michael, much appreciated sentiments.
I and my family are fortunately spared the worst excesses of the current floods although my son David, who lives in Sheffield, had to stay overnight with friends because he couldn't cross the River Don during the episode of flooding that affected Sheffield and Doncaster recently. The intensity and length of the rains has been unprecedented - up to 4 inches in as many hours in some places - the storm sewers, canals and rivers simply could not cope and flood defences (where they were erected) only worked partially because water levels were too high and they over-topped the defences. Believe it or not but in one location the team that went to erect flood defences couldn't do so because they left it too late to and got stuck in traffic jams on their way.
