Resurgence of Interest in Letterpress (x-posted)
A very well-written article in today's New York Times, datelined Los
Angeles, describes a resurgence of letterpress printing from metal type by
hobbyists in that state.
It's complete with some nice photos (including, on the Web version, a
nicely nostalgic color photo of a Vandercook proof press in operation).
To give the reporter, Laura M. Holson, credit, it's just about the only
story I've ever read in the NY Times about which I had personal knowledge of the
matters involved in which the author gets the facts pretty much correctly.
An enjoyable read for anyone nostalgic for the older crafts technology and
skills, it may be accessed on the Times's Web site at: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/10/arts/design/10hols.html
Enjoy!
