So, what are you reading??
A while ago, as a follow up to Michael's (??) question, someone asked
what other books were around our desks... It was such a huge question
for me that I couldn't answer it. I don't recall anyone else doing so
either. I think I am going through a mid-career crisis... Perhaps
because I am largely designing for the web I just really miss the
paper and the smell of the ink (though not the 2 am press checks...),
but it not being practical to "go back" at this point, I've taken up
perhaps too many other interests that bring me back in touch with the
raw materials (knitting, mosaics, pottery), so my books are really
out of control in quantities and way too varied to have answered the
question in a few sentences. And even for work, the books are all
over the place -- whales, kids games, dinosaurs, pilots, all over! I
guess they center around content, more than around design, though
there is a fair number of them on human interfaces and information
architecture.
But... it is renewal time for a few of the classics, and I find I am
not reading them as much as I used to, which lead me to think about
what you folks might be reading in terms of periodicals. I rarely
ever go back to look through the magazines after the current issue
anymore, which I used to do, and I think there might be about 6 of
the latest issues in my reading pile, still unread. Keeping up with
the industry blogs, and having so much technology and visual candy to
look at on a daily basis, Print, Comm Arts and even How (which is an
easier read), have been left on the pile with more frequency.
So... what are you folks reading? Are blogs taking the place of the
publications in fields other than the technology news? Have you all
renewed your subscriptions to Print, Comm Arts, ID, How, etc??
